Frequently asked questions
The questions we actually get asked on site visits. If yours isn't here, call — a person picks up.
What areas does Skilltronics serve?
Skilltronics is based in East Setauket, NY and serves commercial customers across Long Island and the tri-state area, including data centers, hospitals, schools, manufacturing plants and offices.
What services does Skilltronics provide?
Fire alarm systems (addressable and conventional), security cameras, card access, intercom systems, computer networking, audio systems, magnetic locks and electric strikes, and remote technical support.
How do existing customers request service or an emergency visit?
Call us — 1-888-410-3270 toll-free, or 631-750-9311 local — or book a visit online. Emergency service is by phone, so you reach a person rather than a form.
Is the on-site consultation free?
Yes. Skilltronics offers a free on-site consultation to assess a building's security and fire alarm needs and design a system for it, with no obligation to buy.
What's the difference between addressable and conventional fire alarm systems?
A conventional system reports which zone — which wired loop — triggered. An addressable system reports which individual device triggered, which locates a problem much faster in a larger building. Which one fits depends on building size and layout, and Skilltronics installs both.
What's included in fire alarm design, install, inspection and monitoring?
Design and bid is a plan review and device layout meeting NFPA 72 and the local fire marshal's requirements, delivered as shop drawings with a price for the work. Install covers wiring and mounting devices — pull stations, smoke and heat detectors, horns and strobes — programming the panel, and tying into related systems like sprinkler flow and tamper switches, elevator recall or HVAC shutdown where the building needs it. Inspection and testing is scheduled functional testing of every device and the panel, with the paperwork the fire marshal wants on file. Monitoring is a UL-listed central station watching the panel 24/7 and dispatching the fire department on an alarm, usually a separate recurring contract from the install.
How often does a fire alarm system need to be inspected?
A full functional test annually is the baseline, but the exact cycle depends on which code edition the local fire marshal has adopted and on the occupancy type — a school, a warehouse and a nursing home aren't on the same clock, and some components need more frequent checks than others. Talk to your inspector about the specific cycle for your building.
What code governs fire alarm systems?
NFPA 72 is the standard that governs fire alarm design, installation and testing. The local fire marshal, as the Authority Having Jurisdiction, adopts a specific edition and can add local amendments, so requirements vary by town. The building's occupancy type drives how much detection and notification it needs, and accessibility rules affect where notification devices like strobes get placed.
What affects the cost of a fire alarm job?
Building size and device count; addressable versus conventional panel type; how much of the existing system or wiring can be reused versus a full rewire; ceiling and access conditions, such as a drop ceiling versus a hard lid, or an occupied retrofit versus open construction; what it needs to tie into, such as sprinkler, elevator or HVAC; and local permit fees, which vary by town.
Which manufacturers is Skilltronics experienced on?
Honeywell, Bosch, Axis Communications, Lenel, DMP, C•CURE, ProdataKey, American Dynamics, Verint, Sonitrol, System Sensor, Akuvox, InVid, Ring and Silent Knight, among others.
Can Skilltronics search our existing camera footage?
Yes. AI Camera Search layers onto cameras already installed: retrieve the exact clip by package or pallet ID instead of scrubbing hours of footage, and get automated loss-prevention alerts.
How do I get a quote or request service?
Call 1-888-410-3270, email info@skilltronics.tech, book a visit online, or use the instant estimate for a rough range in minutes. A person confirms every appointment — nothing books automatically.
Does Skilltronics do fire alarm permit drawings?
Yes, through FastFire, our plans and permit-drawing division. It produces the stamped drawing sets a permit application needs.
